MR Spotted Bull
Z-Bull x Zips Silver Maid
ApHC Racing Hall of Fame
Mr Spotted Bull, a 1971 stallion by Z-Bull (JC) and out of Zip’s Silver Maid, was bred by Jerry Nunneley of Saint Jo, Texas. Briggs Cunningham III of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, bought the stallion in 1978, followed by Ralph Wells of Bennington, Oklahoma, and Charles Fowler of Ada, Oklahoma, who both purchased Mr Spotted Bull in 1990. Victoria Ennis of Kingston, Oklahoma, became his final owner in 1992.
“He was a magnificent stallion by any breed standard,” Victoria says about “Bull.” “He was ahead of his time, even at the end of his life, and he offered a lot to the Appaloosa breed.”
Bull earned $6,912.67 on the track and held a 5-1-2-1 racing record. In 1973 he finished third in the World Wide Futurity. In 1983, Appaloosa News featured the stallion on the cover of its December issue along with a feature story highlighting his early success as a sire.
As a breeding stallion, Bull produced a versatile crop of 409 registered foals. His get includes 199 race starters with 67 winners, 14 stakes winners, 33 stakes placers and three champions. In total, they’ve collected 34 registers of merit, 11 bronze medallions and $874,337.51 in earnings. His 1975 son Bull Nunneley joined the ApHC Racing Hall of Fame in 1989. Bull Nunneley in turn sired versatile racing and performance stallion I Love Willie in 1983. “All the good foals raised today from ‘Willie,’ Mr Spotted Bull deserves credit for them,” Victoria says. “The appearance is there, the movement is there, and the speed is there. Willie is a culmination of the best Mr Spotted Bull had to offer.”
In the show pen, 19 of Bull’s foals have earned 475.5 performance points and 18 have collected 206.5 halter points. Together, they’ve earned 23 registers of merit and 13 bronze medallions.
Mr Spotted Bull was euthanized in May 1999 after veterinarians were unable to surgically save the stallion’s broken leg.
